Best ergonomic keyboard on the planet! Reviews Kinesis KB500USB-BLK Advantage USB Contoured Keyboard Black

I bought one of these after leaving college with pretty bad Carpal Tunnel. Switching to this Kinesis KB500USB Contoured Keyboard, as well as switching mouse hands has pretty much kept my symptoms at bay or alleviated them for the last 11 years. There is a 3 week learning curve, where you maybe be frustrated... just get over it, it's worth it. After the learning curve, you will be typing faster.
The Kinesis Advantage KB500USB USB contoured keyboard sets a new standard for ergonomic keyboards
I love this Kinesis KB500USB-BLK computer keyboard! It took a while to learn the different position for some of the keys, learn to really relax my hands and wrists and let my fingers do the walking, and to get use to the different contoured shape of the keyboard. The keyboard has an embedded numeric keypad and I bought the footswitch and learned to use the pad when typing numbers.
  • Advanced ergonomics PLUS on-board programmability
  • Compatible with both PC and Mac operating systems
  • Instant configuration for Windows, Mac and non-Windows PC operating environments, includes Windows and Mac legended keys.
  • Integrated two-port USB hub
  • USB devices can be hot-plugged safely
No, it is not a wireless keyboard (it is a USB keyboard) and the keys are noisy, but the comfort of the keyboard outweighs these minor inconveniences. One I bought through Amazon, the other I bought refurbished through Kinesis for a little less than the Amazon price. So for those that have serious carpal, I highly recommend this keyboard.

Well... A cool side benefit - people who try to use your Kinesis KB500USB-BLK keyboard will be stumped. That's a side benefit if you work at a company where if you forget to lock your computer while unattended, they will play a practical joke like send a funny e-mail or change your background picture.

I can probably type 5-10WPM faster with the Kinesis KB500USB-BLK than with any other keyboard. My only caution to you is if you have root privileges and are learning on a Unix or Linux system. The new Kinesis Advantage is USB and includes a Windows key.

It's hilarious watching people look for the Enter and Backspace keys like they have never typed before in their lives. Kee kee! Seriously though, this Kinesis KB500USB-BLK is the best ergonomic keyboard on the market. For those who cannot or will not drop $300 for a keyboard, the Microsoft Ergo Keyboard 4000 is a great value.
